An elephant never forgetsーー「ゾウは決して忘れない」という英語のことわざをご存知ですか？このことわざはゾウの記憶力の良さを表したことわざですが、実は世界にはこのことわざが本当であることを実体験として感じた人びとがいます。これは、ある赤ちゃんゾウを救った人間たちとゾウの群れの物語です。 ある日、1頭の赤ちゃんゾウが誤って深いぬかるみに落ち、身動きが取れなくなってしまいました。状況は深刻で、赤ちゃんゾウは命の危機に晒されてしまいます。ゾウは非常に仲間意識の強い動物で、赤ちゃんゾウを見捨てることなく2日間も側で見守っていました。最終的には人間たちが、あらゆる手を尽くしてこの赤ちゃんゾウを助け出します。
